EcoClinix partnered with Bridge for a redesign of the classic ophthalmoscope and otoscope, striving to make those devices more affordable in developing countries, and more eco-friendly globally.
Working with EcoClinix’ founders, Bridge’s design and engineering teams developed a 2-in-1 modular concept for the product–the “O2-Scope”. Using a single handle, a user simply snaps on a new attachment to easily convert the ophthalmoscope into an otoscope. Bridge leveraged consumer electronics technology and high-efficiency LEDs to keep costs down. A hand crank obviates the need for environmentally unfriendly batteries. The O2-Scope also enable wireless data sharing and telemedicine, increasing access to care in rural areas worldwide.
With this design, EcoClinix founders Dr. Khai Nguyen and Dr. Pouya Afshar won the University of San Diego entrepreneurs’ Venture Vetting award in 2013.
Bridge is in the vanguard of helping companies make more sustainable products.
